Flat river-bottom lots, and ground that is already holding water before it rains.
South Sioux City sits on the Nebraska flat opposite the bluffs, and that geography changes the gutter conversation more than most people expect. On a hillside, water that leaves a downspout goes somewhere by itself. Here it does not.
The river-bottom soil holds water and the lots are close to level, so a downspout discharging at the corner of the house is putting water onto ground that has nowhere to send it. In a wet spring the ground is already saturated before the first storm arrives.

Every clearing we do here finishes at the bottom of the downspout rather than the top. We want to see where the water actually goes when it leaves the pipe: whether the extension is long enough, whether the splash block has sunk and is now tipping water back toward the wall, and whether the discharge point is lower than the ground beside the foundation.
On a flat lot that last one is common and it is the whole problem. A downspout emptying into a shallow depression six feet from the house is not draining, it is filling a pond against your foundation twice a season.
None of that is gutter work exactly, and we do not charge for looking. Extending a downspout run is inexpensive; discovering in year five that the basement wall has been taking it is not.
Frequently because the downspout is clean and still discharging into ground that cannot take it. On flat river-bottom lots the water leaves the pipe and sits. Where the water goes after the downspout matters as much as whether the trough is clear.
Further than most are set - six feet is a reasonable minimum on this ground and further is better where there is any grade at all. Cheap extensions do it. It is the highest-value small job on a flat lot.
Single-story $105-$180, two-story $155-$300. Mostly single-storey here and mostly flat access, so this town sits at the lower end of our range.
Usually the same day. No obligation.
