Guards fix the trough. On this ground the trough was rarely the problem.
This is the page where we most often argue against our own product, and the reason is that on a flat river-bottom lot the gutter is usually doing its job.
Guards solve a debris problem. If your gutters are overflowing because they are packed with leaf, they are worth the money. If they are overflowing because the downspout run below ground is blocked, or backing up because the discharge point is on saturated ground with nowhere to go, a guard changes nothing at all - and you have spent between $1,125 and $2,100 on the wrong end of the system.
| Job | Typical Price |
|---|---|
| Materials + install, per linear foot | $7.50 - $10.50 |
| Typical single-story home | $1,125 - $2,100 |
Before spending anything on guards here, clear the gutter once and watch it in a real storm. If it now handles the rain, the problem was debris and guards will help. If it still backs up at the downspout with a clean trough above it, the money belongs underground - extending the discharge, flushing or replacing a buried run, correcting a splash block that has sunk.
That work is usually a few hundred dollars rather than a few thousand, and it fixes the thing that was actually happening.
Where debris genuinely is the issue - and on the older streets with mature trees it sometimes is - guards here are straightforward: mostly single-storey, mostly flat access, so at $7.50-$10.50 per linear foot a typical house lands toward the bottom of the $1,125-$2,100 range.
Only if debris is why they overflow. On flat lots here the more common cause is a downspout that cannot discharge - blocked underground run, sunken splash block, saturated ground. A guard does nothing about any of those.
Have the gutters cleared once, then watch them in a heavy rain. Handling it now means debris was the issue and guards will help. Still backing up with a clean trough means the money belongs below the downspout, not above it.
$7.50-$10.50 per linear foot fitted, so around $1,125-$2,100 for a typical single-storey home. Flat access here keeps most jobs at the lower end.
