Hail hits the gutter before it hits anything else - and that makes it an insurance question.
Siouxland sits in a part of the plains that takes hail most summers, and gutters are the part of a house that shows it first. The reason is geometry: a gutter presents a soft aluminium face at an angle that catches stones which glance harmlessly off a shingle.
That produces a specific situation that homeowners here run into and do not always handle well. The roof looks fine from the ground, the gutters are visibly dented, and the question of whether this is a repair you pay for or a claim you file is genuinely unclear.
| Job | Typical Price |
|---|---|
| Reseal seam or minor section | $150 - $230 |
| Re-hang sagging section | $210 - $380 |
We will photograph the damage properly - dented face, dented downspouts, and the separations that hail loosens at the seams - date the photographs, and give you a written scope and a firm price. That is the document an adjuster needs, and you can hand it to anyone.
What we will not do is tell you the roof is damaged. We are not roofers, we do not assess shingles, and the outfits that knock on doors after a storm offering to "handle your claim" and inspect your roof for free are not doing you a favour. If the gutters took hail it is worth having a roofer you chose look at the roof separately.
Plenty of hail damage to gutters is cosmetic - dented but functionally fine - and we will say so. A dented trough that still carries water and holds its pitch does not need replacing, whatever the person in the truck told you.
Often, under the same storm claim as roof damage, but that is between you and your insurer and depends on your policy and deductible. What we provide is dated photographs and a written scope with a firm price, which is what an adjuster asks for.
Usually not. Dents are cosmetic if the trough still holds its pitch and carries water. What does need attention is seams that hail has loosened and downspouts knocked out of alignment - those are functional and they are cheap to fix.
Be careful. Storm-chasing crews work a town for a few weeks after hail and are gone. We are here on a route every week. Whoever you use, choose them rather than letting them choose you, and get the scope in writing.
Usually the same day. No obligation.
